Windsor Helps FEED NOVA SCOTIA
Windsor, Nova Scotia - October 6, 2008 - Generously sponsored by local company, Aquarius Pools, the Utata Gallery and Art Center of Windsor has a plan to assist FEED NOVA SCOTIA with filling its warehouse so it can continue the important work of helping to feed hungry people.
On October 12, 2008 Windsor holds its annual Pumpkin Regatta which includes a parade and a pumpkin-boat race across the Piziquid Lake. Thousands of people from all around Hants, Kings and Halifax Counties attend to share in the fun and excitement. On this day, Windsor is always one of the most watched places in the Maritimes as reporters pour in to cover the quirky event.
“Our idea is to show Nova Scotia just how cool and quirky we really are by filling a pool with food for the Feed Nova Scotia warehouse,” says Gerald McKee of Aquarius Pools
“Since we can do something, we think we should.” Utata’s Catherine Jamieson says. She offers a friendly challenge to Windsor’s residents, “Utata invites Windsor to show their stuff and help support those in need.”
“The people of Windsor/West Hants have certainly shown that they can be generous when it counts, “ Chuck Porter, MLA for West Hants says. “I am sure they will rise to the occasion.”
Aquarius Construction will be supplying a pool which will be “parked” in the Utata parking lot on 40 Water Street immediately following the parade. All Regatta participants and spectators are being asked to bring as many non-perishable food items as can be spared.
With the support of David Hunter of Avonian Place, Chuck Porter, MLA , the Red Letter Counsel and the energetic enthusiasm of the Aquarius folks, the Utata team hopes to fill the pool to overflowing. Aided by the generous donation of a 401 pound aerodynamic beauty of a pumpkin from farmer Wayne Knox of Berwick, Utata will be entered in the Regatta to help bring awareness to the event. “We may not win the race, but we'd love to win your support for the people who need it most,” Jamieson says. “After all, hunger is easy to cure. All it takes is a little food.”
“We are thrilled to hear the news of this food drive. Pardon the pun, but food drives are our bread and butter, so we are heartened to hear of this new partnership. We have great need in this province, and too many of our client population involves children and senior citizens, so we encourage the community of Windsor to support the Utata Gallery and Art Center’s food drive,” Dianne Swinemar, Executive Director of FEED NOVA SCOTIA said.
